The National Investigation Agency (NIA) seemed to be embarrased on Friday after they issued summons to the top Delhi doctor Upendra Kaul.
Upendra Kaul, who reached the NIA headquarters, was taken aback by the notice of anti-terror probe agency.A notable cardiologist and the Chairman of Delhi's Batra Hospital was asked to explain his past email exchanges and text messages with separatist leader Yasin Malik which mentioned' INR'.One of the text messages exchnaged had a mention of 'INR 2.78'. INR, inthis instance, stands for internationalised normalised ratio. Internationalised normalised ratio is a blood report value.
Unaware of medical terminology, the NIA interpreted it as Rs2.78 crore havala cash. Dr Upendra Kaul was out of the NIA headquarters in 20minutes.
Once the investigating officer realised, he conveyed this to senior officers. There was no further questioning. Dr Kaul was allowed to leave after this was explained to the NIA. Speaking to India Today, Upendra Kaul said,"My relation with Yasin Malik has been purely a doctor and patient relationship. He [Yasin Malik] was flown to AIIMS [All India Institute of Medical Sciences] in Delhi by home ministry to change a vaulve in his heart in 1995-1996. He required check-up from time to time."

Upendra Kaul is one of India's leading cardiologists and a Kashmiri Pandit.
Upendra Kaul is currently the Chairman of Batra Heart Centre and the Dean Academics and Research of Batra Hospital and Medical Research Centre (BHMRC).
Upendra Kaul established cardiology units at several hospitals in the government and private sectors, including the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), and Fortis chain of hospitals. Batranegated that he was summoned by the National Investigation Agency in Jammu and Kashmir terror funding case.
Top officials had confirmed that the "doctor" was summoned by the NIA for questioning in a 2017 terror funding case, which bears links to "several separatist leaders in the Valley".
The NIA's summon came just days after Upendra Kaul criticised the Centre's decision to read down Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
